Regal Tanks as-pointed-at by Queen Elizabeth II

On the 4th July, 2014 the HMS Queen Elizabeth was named by Queen Elizabeth II in a ceremony at Rosyth. Instead of smashing the traditional bottle of champagne on her hull, the Queen named her by smashing a bottle of whisky from Bowmore distillery.

As the largest ship built for the Royal Navy, HMS Queen Elizabeth is 70m wide, 280m long and 56m tall. To put that into perspective, you could fit 4 jumbo jets across her deck, park 25 double decker busses down her length (or 18 x 100m3 hire tanks), and she is higher than Niagara Falls.

Regal Tanks were contracted to supply 600,000 litres of liquid storage as part of the project. The six 100,000 litre hire tanks were used to store water which acted as ballast for HMS Queen Elizabeth.

HMS Queen Elizabeth will now be fitted out and is due for sea trials in October 2016.
